Description

The Arlington Group was retained by EBA, a Tetra Tech Company, to undertaken the land
use analysis and public consultation elements of the Ocean Bluff-Chantrell Creek ISMP. The
study area consists of 1,800 hectares of primarily low density residential development in South
Surrey. The largest drainage is Chantrell Creek, a tributary of the Nicomekl River. The vision
to improve stormwater management is to incorporate ‘green’ infrastructure, Best Management
Practices and Low Impact Development concepts into planned public infrastructure upgrades.
The key individual recommendation is to ‘daylight’ a section of Chantrell Creek with a new
alignment through Elgin Park. By constructing a meandering creek bed, stormwater flows will be
slowed and groundwater infiltration will be increased. Benefits include improved fish habitat for
lower Chantrell Creek, increased amenity value for Elgin Heritage Park and potential for public
education through interpretive signage.
